ACUTE ILLNESS
An acute illness is a health condition that develops suddenly, lasts for a short period of time (usually a few days to weeks), and typically resolves with appropriate treatment or on its own. Examples of acute illness include infections (viral, bacterial, or parasitic), abdominal pain, injuries (e.g., broken bones, burns), allergic reactions, autoimmune disorders. Treatment includes but not limited to rest, hydration, over-the-counter medications (e.g., pain relievers, antihistamines), antibiotics or antiviral drugs or surgery (in some cases).
